“If your purpose serves the greater good, the universe will move mountains for you.” Dr. Vi Tu Banh
If life is difficult for our fractured families within communities in developed countries, imagine what it would be like to have your country torn apart by war leaving your family refugees. No home, no country, no community or connection…we’re seeing this play out through the Middle East and Ukraine right now, but it’s happened many times before.
Recently I heard a story that sounds like the plot for a Hollywood movie – a young couple fearing for their safety flee China for Vietnam, where they settle and start a family, only to face another war. By 1980 their children and grandchildren would become Vietnamese boat people, stranded on a deserted island in Indonesia for 9 months before being rescued by the people of Uxbridge, Ontario.
Dr. Vi Tu Banh was born in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) during the Vietnam war. Today he is an optometrist, providing comprehensive eye care to the community of Uxbridge and the surrounding areas. He specialises in providing vision therapy to patients with concussion-like symptoms and visual-related learning problems. Vi Tu’s story is one of struggle and strength, highlighting the powerful impact of kindness and how one person can contribute to changing the world for the better.
