Andrea is a Social Scientist, Social Planner who’s worked in Legislation, Policy and policy development, projects, planning approval, and measuring social impacts – effectively understanding how to maximise benefits whilst minimising harm to individuals, groups and communities.
Social scientists study society, humans, and human behaviour – so I’m keen to learn how Andrea’s knowledge can help us understand the role we play in raising children in this modern society we’ve created.
In this episode we discuss the neuroscience behind hugging, the ongoing impact of COVID lockdown on our mental health, and how we become addicted to social media.

If you would like to start a conversation with children 2-8 years old about touch, consent and body autonomy, there’s an Early Childhood approved picture book ‘Huggle Snuggle Cuddle’, which may be helpful.
Written in rhyme with colourful illustrations of animals hugging their young, it’s a delightful story of how sharing a heartfelt hug can say more than words.
